Hm... Son, you think you've got what it takes? They call us Apex Legends. But not all Legends are heroes. Each fight for their own reasons. From the ashes of war, Legends are born. They are icons of strength, power. Outside the ring, they're champions. Inside, they're equals. But the goal remains the same, become an Apex Legend. I say it's a sport of survival. You ask me? It's simple, eh. They kill you, they're better. You kill them, you're better.

Legends

Legends are the playable characters of Apex Legends and Apex Legends Mobile, each different from the other due to their abilities, playstyle, personality, and backstory. A new legend is typically introduced at the beginning of a Season.

Common Abilities[]

Each Legend is defined by their unique Tactical ability, Passive ability, and Ultimate ability. However, the following are common to all Legends (unless modified by their abilities):

  • Legends can walk, sprint, jump, crouch, crouch walk, slide, mantle, and climb walls up to 5-6 meters tall.
  • Through the use of their jump kits, Legends can skydive from high altitudes, boost themselves along zip lines, and negate fall damage.
  • Legends can equip two weapons of any type, as well as one of each kind of gear.
  • Legends have 10 inventory slots that can be used to carry ammo, ordnance, regen items, and spare attachments. Equipping a Backpack Backpack adds more slots.
  • Legends can perform melee attacks at any time. It has a short windup, but deals 30 damage and knocks enemies back.
  • When downed, Legends can still crawl slowly and defend themselves with a Knockdown Shield Knockdown Shield if they have one. Squadmates that are still up can revive them.
    • Legends can perform Finishers on downed enemies, which completely refill their Body Shield Body Shield while also killing the enemy.
  • In Battle Royale:
    • After dying, Legends drop their Death Box which contains all the items the Legends had. As well as their loot, Legends also drop their Respawn Banner, which allows their living squadmates to respawn the dead Legend by using a Respawn Beacon Respawn Beacon, but it must be collected within a certain time limit, otherwise the Legend is out for good.
    • Each Legend is part of a class, which are categorized between Assault Class Assault, Skirmisher Class Skirmisher, Recon Class Recon, Support Class Support, and Controller Class Controller. Each class has its own perk that applies only in Battle Royale.

Hitboxes[]

Legend models

Gibraltar, Caustic, Newcastle, Revenant, and Pathfinder are "large" Legends. Wraith, Lifeline, and Wattson are "small" Legends. Everyone else is a "medium" Legend.

Legends come in three different sizes: large, medium, and small. Though each Legend's hitbox is a bit different, in general, Legends of the same size use the same hitbox "rig" in which their hitboxes are based off of.[2][3][4] This means that Caustic's hitbox is the same size as Gibraltar's,[3] Mirage's hitbox is the same size as Bangalore's, Octane's, Crypto's, etc.,[5][6] and Bloodhound has the same head hitbox as all the other medium Legends, despite their head looking bigger.[7][8][9][10][11] Because hitbox sizes significantly impact gameplay, Fortified Fortified and Low Profile Low Profile were added in an attempt to even the playing field.[3][12] In Season 9 Season 9, Low Profile was removed, causing the small Legends to receive boosts in win rate thanks to them being objectively smaller than other Legends with nothing to counteract it.[13][14] In response, efforts were made to bring hitboxes closer together.

Exceptions:[2][15]

  • Pathfinder and Revenant's hitboxes sit between the large and medium rigs, leaning towards large.[16][4]
    • Pathfinder was originally on the large rig (like Gibraltar and Caustic), but this made little sense with his skinny model.[17] In Season 1 Season 1, his hitbox was reduced to the point that it was skinnier than a medium Legend's;[18] however, this increased his win rate so much that he was given Low Profile Low Profile.[17] In Season 7 Season 7, Pathfinder's hitbox was increased, and Low Profile was eventually removed.
    • Before being released, Revenant had the same skinny hitbox Pathfinder had (at the time), but it was adjusted to be bigger last minute. The developers were not aware of the last-minute hitbox change, which caused Revenant to be released with Low Profile even though his hitbox did not warrant it;[19] Low Profile was later removed. In the Genesis Genesis event, Revenant's hitbox was reduced.
  • All the small Legends—Wraith, Lifeline, and Wattson—have gotten their hitboxes increased to bring them closer to the medium Legends. They are still smaller than medium Legends, but they now sit in-between the medium rig and the old small rig.[20]

Even with the same hitbox, some Legends are still more difficult to hit due to having unique animations. For example, Wraith used to tucked her head in a lot during her sprint animation which made her harder to hit than other small Legends (back when they were all on the small rig).[3][21]

Videos[]

This video was released alongside Season 1 Season 1; therefore, it only covers the original 8 Legends and Octane.

Trivia[]

  • It takes roughly 9-11 months to create a Legend. Pre-production, each Legend's design goes through many changes, but once the design is approved and finalized, the next nine months are spent getting the character out. By that point, quick and sudden changes to the design cannot be made.[22]
  • Pathfinder is the Legend who has changed class the most times. He was originally classified under Support Support. He was later moved to Recon Recon at the start of Season 4 Season 4, and once more to Skirmisher Skirmisher at the start of Season 16 Season 16.
  • Forge was announced as the Legend for Season 4 Season 4, but it was a misdirect. Forge was killed by the true Season 4 Season 4 Legend, Revenant, in "Up Close and Personal".
  • Some Legends have an alternative descriptor on the official website.
    • Fuse is "Explosives Enthusiast" in the game and "Bombastic Explosives Expert" on the website.
    • Newcastle is "Mobile Guardian" in the game and "Heroic Defender" on the website.
    • Vantage is "Survivalist Sniper" in the game and "Sniper Savant" on the website.
  • Season 9 lore implies that the Legends also have additional duties for the Syndicate, such as search and rescue.
  • Season 16 Season 16 , Season 18 Season 18 and Season 20 Season 20 are the only seasons to not introduce a new Legend.
