Ranked Leagues is a game mode introduced in Season 2. It differs from the normal Battle Royale trios game mode in that players are matched with other players of the same or adjacent tier.
The Ranked Leagues seasons coincide with the main seasons. At the end of a season, players receive a reward based on their rank.
Mechanics[]
Ranked matches play the same as the normal Battle Royale in squads of three with the only difference being the matchmaking and the awarding of Ranked Points (RP) after every match. In Ranked, players are matched with players of the same or similar tier with placement. RP is is used to measure progress to the next tier. Each match deducts a small amount of RP to enter, but the players can earn more by getting kills, assists and high placement.
Starting in Season 4, Ranked Seasons are divided into "splits". Tiers reset after each split and the player's final ranked rewards are determined by the highest rank reached on either split.
Abandon and Penalties[]
Prematurely leaving matches results in an abandon penalty. This starts from match is being connected, all the way up to the entire team being eliminated. Even after a player is eliminated, players will still receive penalties if they leave while their banners are still available to be picked up. If their banners do get picked up, players must wait 2 minutes and 30 seconds before they can leave without penalties.
Disconnecting due to server issues or client end will also result in penalties if the player fails to reconnect within 2 minutes. If one or both teammates go AFK, or seen partially disconnect (that is to say, their name banner still shows in HUD), leaving is considered as abandoning and results in a penalty. If the player does not have a full team (either due to teammates disconnect/abandoning or failure to fill by matchmaking), player must wait until they are in the dropship before they can leave.
Players will be warned via the menus if their leaving may trigger abandon penalties; if the warning does not show up, players are free to leave, subject to the server's calculation.
In Ranked Leagues, these are the penalties:
- A minimum of 10 minutes lockout from ALL modes, including Firing Range and Training.
- Forfeiture of any RP earned, and a double subtraction of the entry cost.
Loss Forgiveness[]
When a player is eligible for Loss Forgiveness and would lose RP after a match, Loss Forgiveness will grant them enough RP to negate the loss, making the total RP change zero.
Loss Forgiveness is granted in the following scenarios:
- A match-made teammate abandons the game. (This does NOT apply if the player is partied with the leaver; in that case, all members of the party get penalized.)
- The player gets to the start of the drop sequence and does not have a full squad. (Leaving before that results in an abandon penalty.[note 1])
- The player gets an unexpected quit, once per 24 hours. If the player exceeds this three times during a season, the player loses all forgiveness for the remainder of that season and all further unexpected quits will incur penalties.
Parties[]
Players may enter Ranked Leagues as solo or as a premade party of two or three. Matchmaking automatically fills any remaining slots in the squad with random players of similar rank.
When entering as a party, the players will be matched based on the highest ranked party member. All players in a premade Ranked squad have to be within three ranked tiers of each other. If they aren’t, matchmaking will fail.
Tiers[]
Players are divided into eight tiers, each with four divisions, except Master and Apex Predator where players are ranked globally via their current RP. The rankings are based on platform.
Players can promote to a higher tier upon meeting its point requirement, receiving 250RP promotion bonus upon rank up. Players can also demote to a lower tier, if their RP is about to go below the tier threshold. At the tier threshold, players have a soft demotion protection to lower tiers for three games. After exhausting the protection, the player will be demoted, dropping to 50% of the lower division (e.g. Masters → 50% of Diamond 1). Ranking up or down divisions within tiers is not protected nor will it grant additional RP. Apex Predator tier is also exempt from the usual promotion and demotion procedure, since it is defined as the current top 750 players.
Upon first entering Ranked Leagues, players are placed in "Rookie" tier, which serves as an introductory tier to ranked. Rookie tier has no entry cost, and after leaving it, players cannot demote back to it from Bronze.
Progression[]
At the start of each match, a set amount of RP is deducted as an entry cost, the amount depending on the player's rank tier and division. In turn, RP is awarded to players after each match depending on their performance.
The amount of RP gained is based on two factors: Placement and Kills / Assists. Kills and assists award more RP when higher placement is reached, having relatively little value unless a placement of 10 or better is reached.
Assists occur if the player damaged an enemy within 15 seconds of that enemy getting downed by a team member, and that enemy is eliminated. The 15 second timer is reset when the knocked enemy is revived and the assist is still granted if the enemy is downed again by a team member. Crypto can also get assists by scanning enemies with his Surveillance Drone.
A participation award of 50% of the regular RP (rounded down) is given to a player for a kill by a team member, in case the assist rules did not apply.
Placement | 14th+ | 13th | 12th | 11th | 10th | 9th | 8th | 7th | 6th | 5th | 4th | 3rd | 2nd | 1st |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Awarded RP per K/A | 10 | 10 | 12 | 14 | 16 | 16 | 16 | 18 | 22 | 26 |
The value of a Kill, Assist, or Participation is halved after getting 6 kills . This is a team based stat.
Bonuses[]
- Top 5 Streak Bonus: for maintaining a placement streak of 5th or better. Everytime you extend your streak you’ll earn 10RP more than your previous match, up to 40 bonus RP.
- 2 match streak: +10 RP
- 3 match streak: +20 RP
- 4 match streak: +30 RP
- 5+ match streak: +40 RP
- Challenger Bonus: obtain a 50% bonus on an elimination of a higher ranked player when you’ve personally contributed. This bonus is unaffected by the elimination soft cap of 6 kills.
Ranked Seasons[]
Note: since the introduction of Ranked Splits in Season 4, it's possible to receive an animated Badge instead of a static one if the same Tier is reached in both splits of each Ranked Season.

Ranked placement results[]
The following are the distributions for each season among all players who have played more than 5 hours of Ranked for seasons 1 – 8 and more than 10 hours for seasons 12 and 13. The data from Season 4 onward is only for Split 2, and may not be an accurate representation of Split 1. Seasons 12 and 13 feature both splits. Apex Predator is included in Master, though before the introduction of the Master tier in Season 4, it was just Apex Predator.

Trivia[]
- Ranked series used to be numbered starting from 1. Since Ranked Leagues was introduced in Season 2, this meant that each ranked series would be 1 number lower than the season number, causing some minor confusion. It was changed so that the numbers match the seasons starting with Season 6.
- With Season 13 some more fundamental changes were introduced into the ranking system[1], where a base "Rookie" tier below Bronze was added, demotion protection between tiers was removed and entry costs and point requirements were increased across the board.
- Splits were introduced in Season 4, removed in Season 17 and reintroduced in Season 20.

Notes[]
- ↑ There is an exception to this: If player A joins the server, and player B joins player A's team, but before B finishes loading in player A disconnects. If player C then joins player B's team, from the server's perspective players B and C have had a full squad, thus player A leaving doesn't necessarily give them loss forgiveness, especially if A was a party mate of B.
