Disagreements about the transcripts[]

As I said before, as a transcript the name of Ash should appear clearly from the start, just like in the text file in the game. The point of this page is not to emulate the comic experience but to archive its content for future need. It very silly to assume that we should keep the "suspense" when the chapter is already released - especially when the reveal is in a few lines later.

Also, why link Ash's page to her name when mentioned in the quote? What's the point of that?

About the use of Ash image: It is just a portrait for the established transcript structure coding. One must be very naive and not familiar with the game to think that a little image in a lore page means that Ash is a legend when in the home screen and legends related stuff there's no mention of her.

If needed, the file with all quest texts can be accessed here: https://file.io/xp3DybSmdshS

Why are you against hiding Ash's name but hid Blisk's name in chapter 4?
Ash's name is linked because otherwise it wouldn't be linked at all.
Don't use the Legend portrait template for non-Legends. It's really that simple. If another NPC talks, it would be impossible to use that template. You would have to use their names instead. If every NPC in the transcripts use their names, and every Legend use the portrait template, when people see Ash in the transcript, they would think she's a Legend when she's not. Also the model used for Ash is outdated; she does not look like that anymore. You wouldn't use Blisk's TF|2 model for Blisk, would you?
That link does not work. Lightning Laxus (talk) 20:27, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
I uploaded the text to another site, this one should work properly: https://textuploader.com/1f3ia
I'm not hiding names, I'm using the text from the game files. There it is listed as just "voice", there's no Blisk. (At least to the current story point, I didn't read the next ones yet.)
Mate, you're just a member here too. You're in no position to say "Don't use" for me. I added and formatted most of the stuff in "The First Ship" page, just like in the "The Broken Ghost" too. "If another NPC talks it would be impossible to use that template.", no. Last season, Yoko had quotes but didn't appear in game, so there's no image of her added to the transcript and so, only her name was used. Ash appeared in the game with her own model and drawn in the comics too - clearly depicted saying her quotes where, as of now, is only a "???" in the transcript. Again, someone needs to be almost stupid and extremely unfamiliar with the game to see a 22px image shown in a lore transcript and assume that it is a legend. And parts of Ash model depicted in that portrait (head and shoulders) is still the same. In the cutscene it appears greenish by that's due the bunker light settings. L0D5 (talk) 20:50, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
That's still hiding, whether intentional or not. So you're OK with hiding Blisk because the files hid Blisk, but you're not OK with hiding Ash because the files did not? Because from the perspective of a person who only read the comics and not the files, I don't see the difference. Both of them were being hidden until they were properly revealed.
The template is literally called LegendPortrait. It's meant for Legends. When I tell you to stop using it for non-Legends, you respond with "You can't tell me what to do"? OK. Wow. Gimme an explanation for why LegendPortrait template should be used for non-Legends.
If another NPC shows up, are you going to crop a square from the comic? What if the name is mentioned but no face is shown? What if the art is unbelievably bad? What if the face is covered up by something else? (For example, multiple characters in a crowd and one character's head is partially behind another character's.) What are you going to do then?
Ash isn't wearing her hood, and also -- perhaps it's due to the comics' lower quality -- she's also missing a mouth. Using her TF|2 pic gives people the impression this is TF|2 Ash when it's not -- her legs are clearly different. Lightning Laxus (talk) 21:50, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
Mate, I don't really care about those portraits. During last quest I used just names and quotes, at some point it was changed, I had no say in it. I do think images are helpful for a better reading but it does only work if it is used as much as possible - IMO, we either use them like that or not at all, this half and half situation is just distracting. About the code "LegendPortrait", this is just a code name and it is arbitrary, only people who edits will see that - A person who see that code and can think that Ash is a legend because of that should not be editing this page. If this is the big deal about portraits it can be easily changed - it is just a template for easier edit. Maybe Metafysika should decide on that template/portrait thing since there's more NPCs active in the story now than when this template was implemented. I won't go on with that, remove the Ash image then, this nick picking of yours will only give more headaches in the future.
But, I'm keeping my stand on those unnecessary "???". For the 4th time, those are TRANSCRIPTS. This is a different medium than a comic and the experience designed by the devs is created for the comic in the game. This wiki page is a archive, that's the point of wiki. I'm not deciding who's name is on or not, I'm following the text file. I don't know if the voice shown today is from blisk and I don't care if it is, in the files and in the comic it's only shown the quotes, not its source. And this does not compare to the Ash situation, anyone who saw the last quest knows that that shady figure of last story is ash, it is clear as day. For some reason you're enforcing a suspense that at best would only be a few seconds longer and at worst it's not even there to anyone with half a brain. L0D5 (talk) 22:26, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
Fine, if you're insistent on keeping Ash, I'll change it back. Lightning Laxus (talk) 22:43, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

why use the transcript format at all? why not just upload the comic pages as images? Jockshocker (talk) 22:07, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

This is what I said I was planning to do when I initially edited this page. If we're voting for transcripts vs comics here, I'm voting for comics. Lightning Laxus (talk) 22:11, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
A lot of traffic from wiki pages comes from search engines. Text in images are not indexed in search results, but plain text from transcripts are. IMO, not using transcripts/text is a mistake. Adding images of the comics is fine. L0D5 (talk) 22:26, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
